Please note that most service calls require a certain amount of time spent trouble-shooting and diagnosing in order to determine what repairs are required. An average-sized residence takes the least amount of time (usually a half hour or less) to trouble-shoot and diagnose, however commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities can often require much more trouble-shooting time depending upon the equipment, the location and accessibility of the equipment, and especially if the equipment malfunction is of an intermittent nature or if the equipment is being operated via a remote third-party energy management system. In other words, each job (especially when commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities are concerned) varies in terms of the time required for trouble-shooting and diagnosing before a technician can pinpoint the precise cause of the equipment failure and begin repairs.
AGAIN! Beware of so-called “UP-FRONT-FLAT-RATE-PRICING” particularly when “up-front-flat-rate-pricing” pertains to a residential or light commercial service call:
THE MOST HONEST, FORTHRIGHT, AND ETHICAL PRICING A CONTRACTOR CAN PROVIDE HIS CUSTOMERS IS DOING PRECISELY WHAT WE’VE DONE HERE. NAMELY TELLING HIS CUSTOMER WHAT HIS HOURLY RATE FOR A SERVICE CALL IS. IF YOU KNOW A CONTRACTOR’S HOURLY RATES, THEN YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THE CONTRACTOR IS CHARGING YOU–HIS CUSTOMER–FOR PARTS, MATERIALS, TRAVEL TIME TO THE JOB, ETC. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING LESS THAN A WRITTEN SERVICE REPORT FROM THE CONTRACTOR’S SERVICE TECH EXPLAINING IN DETAIL THE SERVICES WHICH THE TECHNICIAN PERFORMED ALONG WITH AN ITEMIZED BREAKDOWN OF PARTS, MATERIALS, AND LABOR.
